Wabi Sabi / Mono no aware

The Japanese artistic aesthetic of Wabi Sabi, is seeing beauty in "imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete" things.

Aspects of the wabi-sabi aesthetic include asymmetry, simplicity, and an appreciation of the ingenuous integrity of nature.

A related aspect, “Mono no aware” (lit.“pathos of things”), represents an appreciation of impermanence, coupled with a wistful sadness at the passing of transient things.

These concepts were first introduced to me during my travels in Japan and they have since found their way into much of my subsequent photographic work.
